Just weirdness

Sorry for not rating higher, but this song includes some major flaws.
1- There is 8 bars of nothing but offbeat bass and drums, you are using a standard dance progression too, which means that there is absolutely nothing original about the segment
2- As stated below, the bass and kick are way to overpowering
3- The song cuts off right after the peak, no slow down, no nothing
4- Absolutely no dynamic range, all the volume levels are the same, not sure what it is from, but I am guessing overcompression (not entirely sure though). Try to turn the compression down and get the loudness from giving a cleaner mix from tuning your instruments and rhytms
5-Something weird is going on with the piano at the beginning, sounds like heavy stereo separation with the bass in the left and the highs in the right, the effect is too pronounced and displeasing on the ears.
3/5, 5/10
Keep it up

thanks for taking the time to write this a review! :D

my dance tracks tend to focus on rhythm, bass, and drums rather than the leads.
the bass and kick are overpowering on purpose, that's just how i like it to sound.
same goes for the ending. i thought an abrupt end would be more fitting.
there are automation clips on the volume through. and, yeah, mixing is definitely my weak point.
i'm not sure what you mean in #5. if you mean the pad that accompanies the piano, it doesn't sound heavy or pronounced in my phones.

i hope you find these points to be more like stylistic points than flaws, cept the mixing part. i'm a shitty mixer.

again, thanks for the review :D

Turn it down a little...

You say to turn the amp up all the way, so I am assuming that you have one of your own. Therefore you should have noticed the obvious crackling going down at 0:42. We can always turn the volume up, so turn yours down so we can have a better experience.

Otherwise, good job with the melody. At least you didn't just keep the old melody through the entire song but instead mixed it and change it up some to keep things fresh. Although, at the final plateau, you kept it going for too long and just kept coming back to it without too much change. So much that you just get worn out of listening and want it to just end.

Oh, and only a 7 out of 10 cause you kept the same synth for most of the entire song.

Unrl responds:

Fair call. Mastering DOES need to be done.

Not deserving of a top 5

I'll list off all the problems with this song:
-Use of dry VEC2 samples, yes BD FX, that was obvious... need actual effects
-Overcompression on the drums, and generally the entire song
-Piano quickly got drowned out during their chords, they need more sustain so they
-Stale transitions and a very bland build, need some fade ins,
-Basic structure, you cant always go up
-Panning effect is incredibly harsh on the ears whenwearing

Finally, the one part which I enjoyed, the piano solo, was great. Why was it so difficult to hear? The piano should have completely stood out at that part, try pitching it up an octave or EQing a hole for the piano to sit in.

I hope I haven't made too many enemies by my review, but look at what I said and improve your next song by that much.

Not deserving of a top 5 in my opinion. Keep working on it.

Tilkanuts responds:

WOOT FOR VEC2!!!!!!!! USED EVERYWHERE ON NEWGROUNDS!!!!!!!!!!!! I do agree though, it could use more mastering. But i guess the tune and melody of the song drown out the quality :)

Thank you for your criticism though, i truly appreciate it. Thanks for reviewing too.

hah, found it!

Do I get a cookie?

Kazmo responds:

haha I just read this now.

yes you do :3

Exellent

This song is just about perfect. It has just about everything you could desire in a song. Melodic piano parts, thumping kicks, mellow lows, shrill highs. I only have one qualm. Where can I get a version with all three parts of the song together? Any way at all?

Kazmo responds:

It's here somewhere, look harder.

Not my cup of tea...

Soundfonts FTW. I find that a synth just cant capture the tone and frequency range of a real (or sampled) piano. Question, what soundfont do you use? I prefer Fluid R3 for piano.

Honestly, this song is not my cup of tea.. not really sure why. Sorry I cant give more info than that...

Kazmo responds:

I myself am a coffee drinker.

I have Fliud R3 as well.

Mix the drums, then you have DnB

I agree with below, the drums sound an awful lot like the default Fl sliced drums (fluid, i believe?). Although that isn't a crime, mixing the drums with some of your own samples would give it some serious edge. Also, you need to watch for the crackling. Turn the volume down on the production version, that will prevent crackling, and we can always turn it back up if we want. Finally, it belongs in drum and bass, definitely. Sweet sounds. I like lol.

PearlDrummer516 responds:

I was going to make a beat of my own, but I just got carried away and ended up liking the result. I actually don't notice crackling on my speakers. Is it from bass levels, or just plain too loud you think? Thanks for the good review by the way, constructive criticism is always welcome.

Very Nice

first things first, music adjudicators can be real pains in the ass a lot of the time. Too bad, I think this really deserved a first.

One thing that I love is that it never gets boring and makes great background music. You did a great job of that. I dont really have anything negative to say, so keep up the good stuff :P

camman007 responds:

Glad you enjoyed it and i agree completely with the first statement. And nothing negative to say is always good :D! Thanks again!

Find some harmonies

A lot of your instruments clash at points. you have to realize how harmonies work and how you use them too make a song. Listen to some other songs and download some midi files to see how the note progression works. That will help you a lot and makeur music much better.

peace out and hope it gets better :P

DjWoIfie responds:

thanks a lot xD yeah i know, i kinda rushed the song after the first 15 sec because i wanted to be done its just my first version ^^

Good performance

As a piano player I can appreciate the difficulty of playing this. I love how easy it is to just put notes into piano roll and hear a sweet song in perfect time, but nothing really compares to a real person pulling the strings. You are an excellent piano player, keep it up.

mjattie responds:

:) thanks man!
