SK - Psycholunatic

"Excellent"

submission: SK - Psycholunatic
date: September 9, 2009

Very good. Great composition, and an incredibly unique melody.

Only a few qualms. One is that the sound is kinda thin with the lead so far above the bass and drums, that you need some filler in between to close the gap. Also, the snare rolls sound too robotic on their own, and need some effects or change of notes, anything really so that it doesn't sound too robotic.

"Turn it down a little..."

date: September 9, 2009

You say to turn the amp up all the way, so I am assuming that you have one of your own. Therefore you should have noticed the obvious crackling going down at 0:42. We can always turn the volume up, so turn yours down so we can have a better experience.

Otherwise, good job with the melody. At least you didn't just keep the old melody through the entire song but instead mixed it and change it up some to keep things fresh. Although, at the final plateau, you kept it going for too long and just kept coming back to it without too much change. So much that you just get worn out of listening and want it to just end.

Oh, and only a 7 out of 10 cause you kept the same synth for most of the entire song.

Fair call. Mastering DOES need to be done.

Psychedelica - Panic Pt.3

"Not deserving of a top 5"

date: September 9, 2009

I'll list off all the problems with this song:
-Use of dry VEC2 samples, yes BD FX, that was obvious... need actual effects
-Overcompression on the drums, and generally the entire song
-Piano quickly got drowned out during their chords, they need more sustain so they
-Stale transitions and a very bland build, need some fade ins,
-Basic structure, you cant always go up
-Panning effect is incredibly harsh on the ears whenwearing

Finally, the one part which I enjoyed, the piano solo, was great. Why was it so difficult to hear? The piano should have completely stood out at that part, try pitching it up an octave or EQing a hole for the piano to sit in.

I hope I haven't made too many enemies by my review, but look at what I said and improve your next song by that much.

Not deserving of a top 5 in my opinion. Keep working on it.

Author's Response:

WOOT FOR VEC2!!!!!!!! USED EVERYWHERE ON NEWGROUNDS!!!!!!!!!!!! I do agree though, it could use more mastering. But i guess the tune and melody of the song drown out the quality :)

Thank you for your criticism though, i truly appreciate it. Thanks for reviewing too.

Kazmo - Euphoric Part 2/3

"Exellent"

date: September 4, 2009

This song is just about perfect. It has just about everything you could desire in a song. Melodic piano parts, thumping kicks, mellow lows, shrill highs. I only have one qualm. Where can I get a version with all three parts of the song together? Any way at all?

It's here somewhere, look harder.

"Not my cup of tea..."

submission: Kazmo - Drowning
date: September 3, 2009

Soundfonts FTW. I find that a synth just cant capture the tone and frequency range of a real (or sampled) piano. Question, what soundfont do you use? I prefer Fluid R3 for piano.

Honestly, this song is not my cup of tea.. not really sure why. Sorry I cant give more info than that...

I myself am a coffee drinker.

I have Fliud R3 as well.

House (FL Core)

"Very good Kick"

submission: House (FL Core)
date: August 27, 2009

You did a really good job of mixing your kick. I am surprised that you got something that tight using only FL samples. Very good job on that front. Just goes to show that its not what you have, but how you use it. *cough* logic *cough* lol. Just kidding.

Hold Me Tonight (MilkMix)

"Excellent, but a little long."

date: August 27, 2009

I love it. The huge delay on the piano sounds excellent and gives an incredible sound to the song. However, I would prefer to have the intro a little shorter but thats just a personal preference. Awesome. DLed (along with like 10 other songs lol)

Adrenaline Break

"Mix the drums, then you have DnB"

submission: Adrenaline Break
date: August 12, 2009

I agree with below, the drums sound an awful lot like the default Fl sliced drums (fluid, i believe?). Although that isn't a crime, mixing the drums with some of your own samples would give it some serious edge. Also, you need to watch for the crackling. Turn the volume down on the production version, that will prevent crackling, and we can always turn it back up if we want. Finally, it belongs in drum and bass, definitely. Sweet sounds. I like lol.

August 13, 2009

Author's Response:

I was going to make a beat of my own, but I just got carried away and ended up liking the result. I actually don't notice crackling on my speakers. Is it from bass levels, or just plain too loud you think? Thanks for the good review by the way, constructive criticism is always welcome.
